The New York State Department of Labor has issued new guidelines to protect workers from extreme cold.

Anyone working outside. especially construction workers, face significant dangers when working in extreme cold. The guidelines advise employers to take action to protect workers. The recommended actions include:

  • scheduling work during the warmest parts of the workday,
  • having emergency plans in place to respond to cold weather dangers, and
  • educating supervisors to be aware of and take action when cold-related illnesses occur.

Here’s a link to the guidelines.

Our law firm has long stood for the protection of construction workers. The State recognizes the need to protect hard-working construction workers and others who must work out in the extreme elements.

There are other State guidelines for working in extreme heat. Although heat usually isn’t a challenge working outside in the Buffalo region during winter months, summertime will be here before we know it.

We’re always available to talk with construction workers and their families if an injury should ever happen on a job site.
