The New York Child Victims Act allows victims of child sex abuse to file a civil suit any time before their 55th birthday. Previously these claims expired on the victim’s 23rd birthday.
The Act also creates a limited one-year window during which adult survivors whose claims would otherwise be time barred can file a civil suit. The one-year revival period is open now, running from August 14, 2019 through August 14, 2020.
During the revival period, claims are revived regardless of how long ago the abuse occurred.
