  • Attention Public Schools: Is Your Website Compliant? Free Guidance From the US DOE Available Soon.

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) protects the rights of students with disabilities. IDEA is enforced by the US Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights. Among other requirements, public schools – including public charter schools – must ensure that their websites and online programs are accessible to individuals with disabilities.

To avoid a discrimination complaint, it’s important that public schools ensure that their website is compliant. Ensuring accessibility can be challenging as schools begin using more and more technology in classrooms and other programs. Fortunately, the US Department of Education will be offering a series of webinars to assist in this transition.

The first of the series of webinars will be offered on May 29, 2018 at 1 p.m. More information, including how to register, is available here.

The attorneys at The Coppola Firm consistently monitor changes in State and federal laws that impact charter and other public schools. If you have compliance questions regarding your charter school’s obligations, we welcome you to contact us.
